Victoria shelves animal protection reforms

The Victorian government has been promising a new animal protection law for nearly a decade. But, the long-awaited reforms are once again facing delay. 

Animal advocacy groups have responded with outrage as reports emerge that the Allan government will shelve the bill until after this year’s state election. 

With the state’s existing animal protection framework turning 40 this year, what changes would the draft bill bring, and how likely is it to be passed in the future?
