Victoria donation laws ruled unconstitutional before state election

Victoria’s political donation laws have been thrown into doubt after a major High Court ruling last week.

The court found the state’s caps on donations are unconstitutional because of a loophole that lets major parties raise money through associated entities.

The decision comes just months out from the Victorian election.

Advocates say the current system unfairly limits ordinary donors while benefiting big political players.
