Union Calls to Scrap ‘Outdated Rules’

Currently, non-government schools are technically allowed to discriminate against individuals on the basis of gender, sexual orientation and marital status due to religious exemptions in the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act.

The Independent Education Union of Australia has championed MP Alex Greenwich’s call to scrap these exemptions. According to the IEUA, the problem is even worse than Mr. Greenwich has identified.

We asked Carol Matthews of the IEUA why it is important that the NSW government follows through on making these changes to the Act.
