Disadvantaged Australians facing increased financial stress during fuel crisis

The cost and availability of petrol across the country remains front of mind after millions of Australians travelled over the Easter long weekend.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen says he is confident fuel supply has been secured until at least mid-May.

But the impact of the sudden increase in fuel prices has already hit the most vulnerable in the community.

Australians living in poverty prior to the conflict in Iran are being squeezed even further.

TheWire spoke with Julie Fry, the program co-ordinator for the Bathurst Uniting Support Services, and Kristin O’Connell, spokesperson from the Antipoverty Centre, about the impact of increasing cost-of-living pressures on already disadvantaged people.
