Oh deer!

Feral deer are the biggest pest we have destroying saplings, distributing weeds and crowding out native animals like wallabies and kangaroos.  Australia is now home to six species of deer; fallow, red, chital, hog, rusa and sambar -In 1995, there were four populations of red deer in Australia in 2007, 65 red deer populations had been identified

Federal, state and territory governments are close to finalising a plan to coordinate efforts to eradicate the millions of feral deer damaging national parks and farmland in south east Australia.

The National Feral Deer action plan brings together new techniques and technology to control deer numbers, including game-changing thermal imaging technology and aerial shooting now being used in South Australia and Tasmania
