Tenant advocates are urging the New South Wales government to act on soaring rents, warning above-inflation increases are pushing people to the brink of homelessness.
Homelessness NSW says a single rent hike is now enough to force some renters out, and is calling for protections similar to Victoria, where tenants can challenge increases that exceed inflation.
The warning comes as cost-of-living pressures deepen and winter approaches, with fears more people could be pushed into homelessness in the months ahead.
