Bunuba Traditional Owners rejoice, as the latest national park in central Kimberley is set to protect part of the Martuwarra Fitzroy River.
Stretching beyond the size of London, Bunuba National Park has added 220 000 hectares to conservation estate in WA, extending the Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park along the Fitzroy River, north to Dimond Gorge.
Western Australia Premier, Roger Cook said the Bunuba National Park is part of the “broader vision for the Kimberley as it recovers from unprecedented flooding.”
The Fitzroy River, commonly known as a sacred site for Traditional Owners maintains ties to First Nation’s ancestral history.
