New changes proposed to increase organ and tissue donors

Transplant Australia has proposed new changes in response to a lack of organ and tissue donors coming out of COVID-19.

Currently, there are 1,888 Australians waiting for a life-saving transplant with only 359 donors reported at the end of October. In a way to combat the lack of donors, a proposal to include organ donor status on state licenses has been brought forward.

By including organ donor status on state-based license systems, it streamlines the process of providing necessary organs and tissue to those that need it.
