Government response to algal bloom under fire days out from election

As the state advances towards the next term of government, South Australia remains in the grips of its harmful algal bloom – an issue that’s plagued SA’s marine environment and coastal communities for the last 12 months.

The bloom has spread 20 000 km since its emergence in March 2025, seeing the far-reach of environmental, personal, health and economic impact.

Now, a year from the first report of SA’s Harmful Algae, An ABC Four Corners investigation alleges  State government took months to update health advice, raising questions around transparency.
