Anniversary of Kabul’s collapse: Insights on media portrayal and women’s representation amid crisis

Today,¬†August 15, marks one of the darkest days in Afghanistan’s history: the collapse of Kabul. Two years ago, immediately following the United States troop withdrawal, the Taliban overtook the government and the 20-year western mission in Afghanistan took only a single day to collapse.

Since 2021, the Taliban have imposed a harsh interpretation of Islamic law despite pledges to respect the rights of women and religious and ethnic minority communities Media representations of this crisis.
