A light on “anxiety-inducing” experience of those faced with social housing queues

New research reveals what it’s like to be one in a queue of thousands for social housing, with waitees describing experiences as “traumatic” and “anxiety-inducing” as some remain on waitlists for up to 10 years.

With over 170 000 people queued for social housing nationally – the report Waithood: The Experiences of Applying for and Waiting for Social Housing draws on 75 interviews from people across QLD, NSW and Tasmania – giving voice to the deepening crisis – and, amplifying desperate calls for change.
