Students demand government action over detained academic in Saudi Arabia

A group of Monash university students are demanding action from the Australian Government over the ongoing detention of an Australian man in Saudia Arabia.

Dr Osama Al Hasani, was arrested in 2021 by Saudi authorities over allegations of car theft committed in 2015, but Human Rights Watch  and his legal team argue that his detention was politically motivated.

With limited government intervention to date, Monash students have launched a petition calling for his immediate release and the protection of academic freedom worldwide.
