Queensland introduces tougher laws on hate speech

The Queensland government has introduced laws to make chants such as ‘From the River to the Sea’ and Global Intifada illegal if they’re used to cause menace, harassment or offense.

The bans are part of a wider hate speech laws, which also penalizes displaying Nazi, Hamas, Islamic State symbols and more, with up to TWO years in prison.

Grassroots organisations are against the move, saying there’s a context about the chants.
