Native lizard halts Canberra Airport construction

The critically endangered Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon lives near Canberra Airport’s runway, where a new road is planned. Roadworks began, sparking outrage from conservationists.

The Department of Environment intervened, halting work temporarily. Senator David Pocock emphasised the need to address Australia’s biodiversity loss. Talks continue, and for now, the Earless Dragon remains safe.
